Day 163: Folder of Good Intentions

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. –Psalm 90:12 NIV

On our phones or computers when we see something we like or that’s important to us, we save it. We often put it in a folder where we can access it when needed. Unfortunately, we often do the same thing with people. We’re all busy, and we all have schedules and demands. Even when a person is retired, it is easy to find life hectic. We too often think that those we love will always be there. We tend to think in terms of “one day” making time for them. We put them in our folder of good intentions—planning on accessing them when time allows. The only problem is, people have a shelf life. None of us are promised a tomorrow. If you have loved ones in your file of good intentions, let them know that you are thinking of them. A phone call, a text, maybe even a short visit will make their day.My brother-in-law, Dean, was killed in the line of duty as a California Chips Officer. Shortly before his death, he came to see us in Missouri. Imagine if he’d put us in his folder of good intentions—we would have missed creating that last special memory with him. Don’t miss what is really important, those we love!

prayer focuses

Father, help me to reach out to the people You bring to my mind on a daily basis.

Please help me to treat everyone as if I’ll never see them again on this earth. Help me to always value them.
