Day 136: Easily Offended

Love

Have you ever had to deal with people who are really touchy, easily offended, or easily angered? Have you ever found yourself walking on egg shells around them, or repeating the phrase over and over to yourself, “I’m not crazy, I’m not crazy.” After being around them for a while, you begin to second guess everything you say or do. It’s exhausting. Scripture tells us that love is patient and kind, but it doesn’t say that we’re the scapegoat for others’ irrational or insecure behavior. If we are touchy, we WILL get touched. If we are easily annoyed, angered, hurt, offended, put out, or ticked off—those are exactly the kind of people we will attract. Touchy people are more than willing to accommodate us with the opportunities to display these behaviors, they will beat a path to our door. However, if we choose to walk in love before these opportunities arise, we can live a life of peace. When we choose to overlook an offense, to seek the good of others and not our own, we learn that we don’t need the approval of others to be okay. It’s not easy, but instead of being touchy, touch others with grace.

prayer focuses

Pray for the wisdom to deal with difficult people in love.

Regularly examine our hearts to see if there is anything in us that dishonors God.
