Selfish Prayer

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. –John 14:13 NIV

Though God is not a vending machine for all of our selfish desires, He does say in John to ask. Confusing? It’s all about the heart; when we are in right relationship with our Father, we naturally ask for the right things! A quick search of God’s Word reveals there are countless examples of how and what to pray for. Start today with how Paul says he prayed for the Colossians. Go ahead and make it personal, let it be all about you: Father, fill me with the knowledge of Your will and grant me spiritual wisdom and understanding. Help me to walk in a manner worthy of You, fully pleasing, and bearing fruit. Increase my knowledge of You and strengthen me according to Your glorious might. I ask for endurance and joy. Thank You that I am delivered from the domain of darkness and am transferred into the Kingdom of Your beloved Son, Jesus, in whom I have redemption and the forgiveness of my sins (Colossians 1:9-13).
