Seven Days

Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and nights. No one said a word to Job, for they saw that his suffering was too great for words. – Job 2:13 NLT

In the Bible, we read the story of Job. He lost his home, his health, his ten children, and much more. When Job’s friends first heard of his sorrow, they came to comfort him. Job sat on the ground in mourning, and they joined him for seven days. They said nothing; they just sat next to him realizing the depth of his pain. It is hard to comprehend the crippling grief Job suffered. In this world, everyone suffers pain at one time or another. It may be a friend or family member going through terrible heartache and grief. Your care and love can be demonstrated by your presence. That will be something they will never forget. It will not be the words they remember. Maybe your eye contact, a hand squeeze, or a hug is worth more than a thousand words. Just sitting by them or even crying with them is all the comfort they may need for the moment. In Psalm 34, we read that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted. What an example for us to follow.
