Day 197: Sharpen Your Focus

So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. –James 1:4 NLT

Have you ever been using a large roll of tape to pack boxes and then lose the end of the roll? You sit there going around and around the roll trying to find the edge which has miraculously disappeared the minute you let go of it. Or, how about trying to get one of those plastic bags open in the produce section? They’re impossible! Life is filled with frustrating experiences. Those everyday frustrations come to us all, and as much as we hate them, they’re actually good for us. If we’re not careful, the frustrations becomes our focus, and we miss what we were actually trying to accomplish in the first place. Through them we learn patience, forbearance, and tolerance. When our focus is shifted to the frustrations and not the good that comes from them, we lose sight of the character they build. Who are we without character? So the next time you’re tempted to throw that roll of tape across the room or to rip that produce bag open with your teeth, stop. Stop and ask yourself, “What can I learn from this about myself today?” Our character can be sharpened by the simplest things. Change the focus, change ourselves.

prayer focuses

Focus on building character and your frustrations won’t seem so frustrating.

Learn to laugh at yourself, roll with the punches, and let God perfect you.
