Day 184: Jesus Took Our Shame

Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. –Hebrews 12:2 NKJV

Have you ever thought that maybe Jesus despised the shame of the Cross? According to Pastor Rick Renner, the Greek word for “despised” is a compound of the words kata and phroneo, meaning to look down upon, think poorly of, despise, abhor, detest, disdain, or loathe. The word “shame” is the Greek word aischune, which describes something as ugly, revolting, and grotesque. Jesus took your shame upon Himself to pay the price for any and all humiliation that would ever try to poison your life. When your past shame comes into your thoughts, trust in what He has done on the Cross. Don’t listen to the devil’s lies about your past. Remember, Jesus’ suffering was for your deliverance and the freedom to become the person God planned for you to be. You are free from the bondage of shame because of Him! Jesus felt all of your humiliations. He took them all as part of His sacrificial work on the Cross so you could be set free.

prayer focuses

Know that you are set free from the bondage of humiliation.

Jesus carries all your hurts and cares about all aspects of your life. Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross, through His death and resurrection, destroys all of the enemy’s attempts of claiming a victory over you!
