Day 44: Take Two and Call on God

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. –2 Peter 3:9 NIV

When people have a massive headache, they may take medicine for the pain. They know that it’ll take time for the medicine to take effect, so they wait and trust the medicine will work. Even if it takes a second dose, they believe the pain will soon subside. When facing a painful situation in our lives, something we have no control over, and we pray for the circumstances to change, if they don’t immediately change, do we get discouraged? If our situation goes on for any length of time we often assume God has not heard our prayers, or has turned a deaf ear to them. We begin to think prayer doesn’t work. Isn’t it sad that we can be patient waiting for medicine to kick in, but have no ability to trust God if things take longer than expected? Our prayers are heard, and they are always answered, but not on our time table. Sometimes the answer is yes, sometimes no, and sometimes it’s wait. How silly would it be to take medicine for a headache, and then proclaim five minutes later that it didn’t work? Don’t give up before your breakthrough. Your timely answer is on the way.
