The Pruning Process

He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. –John 15:2 NIV

The pruning process is defined as the cutting away or cutting back parts of the tree for better shape or more fruitful growth. This is the same process the Lord does in our lives. The Lord’s desire is to bring us to a place of fruitfulness. If we allow this process to take place in our lives, we will see healing and restoration begin within our spirits. It is so easy to keep hidden those secret compartments of guilt, shame, condemnation, bitterness, etc. in the chambers of our heart, but these negative emotions only contaminate our growth. The Lord is standing at the door of your heart knocking, seeking to come in and commune with you. His desire is to invade those hidden places. Will you allow Him in? The pruning that needs to take place can only begin when we give God permission to enter those secret places of our hearts. Are you willing to give Him your treasures? That is what He is after, all the superficial things that have been holding you captive. He desires to bring you to a place of wholeness and healing.

prayer focuses

Ask God to point out what things He has been trying to prune from your life.

Pray that the Holy Spirit would help you surrender to God’s pruning process.
