A woman told me once about a really stingy relative of hers who had just died. She said the husband and kids were never allowed to buy anything that wasn’t absolutely necessary. When they were gathering her things together to donate to charity after her death, they accidentally found a tear in the lining of a coat.When they examined it closer, they found that the lining of the coat was filled with cash. They found thousands of dollars in the linings of jackets and taped under drawers in her desk. She had been hoarding cash for years and forcing her family to live a meager existence. She was saving for the illusive “someday” that never came. Why would she live for a tomorrow that she had no guarantee she’d ever see? We are told in Scripture to be wise with our money, to plan for the future, to be good stewards, but not to make money our idol. What does it profit anyone to gain the whole world yet lose their soul? (See Mark 8:36 NIV.) Are you using your money wisely? Are you using it to show love to those around you? So if tomorrow never comes, are you living life to its fullest today?
