Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; …and there be no herd.... Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. –Habakkuk 3:17-18 NKJV

Day 119: When Troubles Come

Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; …and there be no herd.... Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. –Habakkuk 3:17-18 NKJV

Our life is a closed book to us, but it is wide open to God. After all, He has written the story of our life; and because He is sovereign, He knows how our story ends even though we do not. Day after day we wake up in the morning, we have our coffee, we shower, we go to work, we go back home at the end of the day, and we go to bed and rest. The next day, we do it all over again. Sometimes we take things for granted, don’t we? Not one of us knows what tomorrow will bring; but to the believer, there is the assurance that God will get us through our troubles. Psalm 34:19 (NIV) says, “A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.” Job lost all that he had, but he was still able to proclaim, “My Redeemer lives” (Job 19:25 NIV). If you are feeling defeated by your troubles, just proclaim the words of the prophet Habakkuk, “Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines....... I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the Lord of my salvation” (Habakkuk 3:17-18 NKJV)

prayer focuses

My heavenly Father, I pray that I will have a thankful heart in every situation as my life story unfolds.

Holy Spirit, strengthen me and help me in moments of doubt and weakness to look upon You as my Sovereign Lord.
