Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written. –John 21:25 NIV

Do you sometimes feel like the world is unraveling? Like love and civility continue to wither while the seeds of distrust and suspicion find fertile ground to thrive.Sharply contrast that with the words of John that close out his gospel letter. While most see this as only a clever salutation, maybe he was trying to point us to a deeper truth—to push us to behold the enormous scope of what Christ accomplished on our behalf.Consider: Can we ever comprehend the full glory of God? Do we really understand the depth of our own corruption that causes us to mount treason against our King? Can we grasp Christ’s love toward ungrateful, self-absorbed people? Yet, are we not daily extended abundant grace, mercy, and restoration? How is it that these lofty contemplations no longer move us…no longer touch our affections…no longer spur us to change?Perhaps real alteration for our lives and our surroundings comes as believers embrace the uncontainable reality that John provides. Where the whole world filled with books, they could not adequately convey the magnitude of the grace, mercy, and forgiveness that is ours in Christ Jesus.

prayer focuses

Jesus, help me really see who You are and what You did for me.

Let me be changed by it today. Amen. Jesus, I’m humbled by Your sacrifice. Show me how to demonstrate that kind of love to those around me.
