Day 146: God Wins

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven…. –Matthew 5:44-45 NIV

The devastating events of September 11, 2001, were designed to destroy our unity and our collective consciousness as a nation. They accomplished just the opposite, however. The chaos brought us together to serve, rescue, mourn, and regroup. People of every ilk stepped up, helping neighbors and strangers alike. Lifelong bonds were forged. We learned how strong we are. That’s the good that God created from the mire and destruction of that terrible day. It seems unnatural to respond to such intense hatred with love, but that’s exactly what Jesus did on the Cross. And even though Satan is the god of this world, his days are numbered. He might win a few battles now and then, but we know who wins the war, and it’s not the enemy. He gets tossed into a lake of fire while we believers who remain steadfast get to spend an eternity in Heaven, gazing at our Creator and existing in perfect peace in His loving presence. Let God fight your battles and handle your enemies. Let His will be done in spite of your fear, pain, and grief. Only He can bring beauty from the ashes of hatred and devastation.
