Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. –2 Corinthians 9:6 NLT
If you plant an apple tree, you won’t get pears. If you sow seeds for corn, you won’t get wheat. We only get back what we’ve sown. That same principle applies to everything in life—relationships, jobs, and friendships. We shouldn’t expect to reap a harvest where we’ve planted no seeds. To have a friend, we first have to be a friend. To be in a loving and caring relationship, we can’t be selfish or self-centered and expect it to flourish. We can’t be lazy and unmotivated in our jobs and expect a raise. If we’re not getting what we feel like we deserve in life, perhaps it’s because we haven’t put enough into it. If we spent more time serving than wanting to be served, put others’ needs ahead of our own more often, listened more and talked less, we’d be sowing seeds for an amazing harvest. Showing compassion for other people’s troubles and not making every conversation all about us, ultimately leads to lives where our own needs are met in abundance. Do you want to see a big change in your life? Put love first. It reaps a pressed-down, shaken-together, and running-over harvest every time.
Not seeing much of a harvest? Examine what seeds you’re sowing and begin to sow seeds from a generous and loving heart.
It’s never too late to plant a new crop. Make today the day you change the course of your life. Sow love.
