What’s Your First Thought?

What I always feared has happened to me. What I dreaded has come true. –Job 3:25 NLT

The phone rings and it’s a call from your child’s school, or it’s the doctor with your test results. What is your first thought? Do you automatically think it’s bad news? There’s a good chance that the school has called to give you a great report on your child. Your test results could be miraculous. However, our minds tend to expect the worst.Job was a wealthy, upright man who lost everything, and nowhere in Scripture does it seem to say he ever knew why. We know that Satan challenged God by asking permission to torment Job, for he believed Job would curse God for his suffering. Job never cursed God, but he did curse the day of his birth. He confessed that what he had always feared had happened. When you think about your life, do you expect good things, or do you expect bad things? In every situation in life, God has a promise to cover it. Bad report from the doctor? Psalm 118:17 (NLT) says, “I will not die; instead, I will live to tell what the Lord has done.” Set your mind on things above, expect God’s best, and watch fear lose its grip. May faith-filled thoughts replace dread.

prayer focuses

When faced with bad news, proclaim God’s promises over your situation.

Expect the best. Retrain your mind to think like God. Study His promises until they become your go-to reference in life.
