When Did Rest Become a Bad Thing?

Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. –Genesis 2:3 NIV

In today’s society, we are told to “Go.” If we aren’t keeping ourselves busy or being productive, it is looked upon as being lazy and not good stewards of our time. When did rest become a bad thing? When God created the heavens and the earth, He took a day of rest on the seventh day. This was not because He needed to; He did it to set an example for us. When you rely on your own strength and try to do things alone, you are walking in disobedience. By doing this, you are not only disobedient, you are starving your spirit of rest. If you are unsure where you lack obedience, ask the Holy Spirit to show you. When you come to God in your weakness, His grace carries you through. Have faith in who He is and you will see God move in your life. If you know that you struggle with being so busy that there is no time left to rest, then schedule it. Schedule specific times for rest in your calendar. When you honor and obey the Word of God, your life aligns with His. Instead of feeling restless, you can experience the joy and peace that He intended you to have.

prayer focuses

Ask yourself if you’ve been getting enough rest to sustain yourself or if you need to schedule it in your week.

Ask God to help you walk in obedience and have faith in His ability to give you rest.
