The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. –Proverbs 12:18 NIV
There are times in a conversation when a wrongly placed word can come out of your mouth. You wish you could take it back. This is something that happens to everyone at some point or another. Words are capable of lifting someone’s spirit or piercing their heart. Proverbs 18:21 (MSG) says, “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.” Words can be careless and destroy, but kind words can heal and help. Look for opportunities to be an encourager. The world we live in can be very cruel. Gossip is part of every conversation without any thought of the damage it can cause. We are judged for our words as James 2:12-13 (MSG) tells us, “Talk and act like a person expecting to be judged by the Rule that sets us free. For if you refuse to act kindly, you can hardly expect to be treated kindly. Kind mercy wins over harsh judgment every time.” Let your tongue be a healing force. You will be blessed—and at the same time be a blessing.
Ask God’s help in controlling your tongue and what comes out from it.
Pray your words will be words of life for others.
