YOU WILL RISE UP

As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God… –Psalm 42:1-2 ESV

Many people struggle with depression on a daily basis. Christians might hesitate to admit that they’re dealing with depression because they think it makes them look like less of a Christian. That’s a travesty! If you are struggling with depression, someone might have told you, “Snap out of it. Christians don’t get depressed. If you had enough faith, you wouldn’t be depressed; you must be weak. ”These are all lies. Even some of the greatest leaders in the Christian world have dealt with depression, and they are by no means weak in their faith. If you read the Psalms, you will see that King David dealt with depression. Even though David was a man after God’s own heart and was chosen to be king, yet he still dealt with depression; so you can dismiss the idea that only the weak are depressed. Psalm 42:5 (ESV) says, “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation.” This verse gives you David’s secret to success: No matter how dark the day and how depressed he got, he still believed that his God was able to deliver him. David cried out to God for help; he didn’t just pretend everything was okay. If you are battling depression, seek help. Don’t pretend all is well; instead get well. Proclaim for yourself, “I shall again praise Him, my salvation!”
