Everlasting Father

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. –Isaiah 9:6 NIV

Once you begin a relationship with God through faith in Jesus, you are adopted into His family and permanently become His child. While your earthly relationships can shift and change so much that it seems like nothing endures very long, Scripture assures us that our relationship with Him never changes! Paraphrased, the prophet declares in Isaiah 9:6 that Jesus will be our Unwavering, Constant, Immovable, Everlasting Father. But don’t get confused as to why Jesus is assigned this title. Instead of this prophecy in the book of Isaiah being a muddled description of the Trinity, Isaiah used lofty language to remind us of the divine nature of the coming Messiah. In the New Testament, Jesus is clearly revealed as the Eternal God (John 1:1); and through His life, death, and resurrection, He demonstrated His loving and “fatherly” care and concern for all who are His (John 10).As the 19th century preacher Charles Spurgeon wrote, “There is no un-fathering Christ, and there is no un-childing us. He is everlastingly a father to those who trust in Him.” Rest assured that nothing “in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39 NIV).

Jesus, thank You for loving and caring for me when it seems like no one else does.

Jesus, I believe You are the Christ who paid for my sin and invites me to be restored to You. Help me live for You today.
